I-20’s single-ended integrated design features high plate voltage, high plate acceleration voltage, low electron cloud density, and low cathode current, resulting in an 80% improvement in power output efficiency compared to traditional Class A transistors. This design allows for speed modulation of the signal amplitude, rather than relying solely on addition and subtraction of a constant current signal as in standard Class A amplification. This architecture also improves sensitivity and reduces drive current requirements; a single EL34 tube can output up to 20 watts of power, with the 12AX7 amplification stage requiring less than 1 mA of drive current, and the EL34 anode requiring only 35 mA of drive current when 650 volts are applied. It is equipped with Mundroft capacitors, AMRG and Vishay resistors, Elma volume control, and an input selector, providing four inputs: two RCA and two XLR.
