VARIDIG V16 STANDARD DIGITAL AES/EBU Varidig V16 is new in the 2016 revision* of the “original” Varidig.

Varidig (short for VARIable DIGital) is our proprietary (patent pending) technology. Varidig differs from any other digital cable on the market because its porous Teflon® dielectric is thicker in the middle of the cable than at the ends. The diagram below shows the geometry of the internal conductor assembly of the AES/EBU Varidig, illustrating the concept and technology: Note that the diameter decreases as the conductor approaches the end (terminal point); the twist pitch also varies along the cable – this greatly helps reduce internal resonance in the cable.

This special dielectric geometry eliminates impedance mismatch at critical points (where terminals connect to the wire, i.e., between inherently low-impedance RCA terminals, or still far from the 110-ohm XLR with the wire itself), allowing for proper matching. The characteristic impedance of the entire wire, including the terminals (75 ohms for S/PDIF, 110 ohms for AES/EBU), is significantly reduced, thus greatly minimizing signal reflections within the wire.
